The Triangle Factory Fire Practice Test

The group that predominantly worked at the Triangle Shirtwaist Factory comprised female immigrants. During the early 20th century, especially in the garment industry, a significant number of immigrant women sought jobs as they were looking for economic opportunities in the United States. Many of these women came from Eastern and Southern Europe and were employed in factories due to their willingness to accept lower wages and the nature of the work, which often required little formal education or training.

This context highlights the socio-economic factors driving these women into factory jobs. The conditions in factories like Triangle were typically challenging, with long hours and dangerous working environments, which later influenced labor movements and reforms advocating for worker safety and rights. Understanding this demographic is crucial in grasping the historical significance of the Triangle Fire and its impact on labor policies.
